Partners separated by long distances – prior to the coming of an well-organized mailing system and email – got creative and worn perfumed candles melted with sealing wax to stamp their one of a kind watermark on love letters. The faint fragrance from the scented candles gave a special touch to the letters, serving as an extension of a partner’s kiss or embrace for most couples who waste extensive periods apart, becoming keepsakes in the practice.

With the breakthrough of beeswax and stearic acid as alternatives to tallow and other waxes, fragrances became easier to fit in candle-crafting. Only the wealthiest were able to have the funds for these candles because of the towering monetary value of beeswax. Paradoxically, shortly after this the light bulb was invented began to wane.
 
The Industrial Revolution noticed the resumption of the candle’s status owing to matter over how to utilize mechanized byproducts. It results to many of these byproducts could be used for candle-crafting, and these materials were traded to concerned capitalists at low prices.

The recently ballooning  {preoccupation with fitness and wellness also inspired a “spa” or “wellness” craze that sent people looking for more and more means to ease pressures in their increasingly trying everyday lives. Once more, aromatic candles made an advent as an easy and cost-effective means to calm the senses while at home or even throughout work.

It appears that perfumed candles have become as much a part of present life and its long and colorful history seems to ensure its rank as light-giver to our residences and spirits for decades to come.
