It’s Time For A New Friday The 13th

Slasher flicks are time and time again a guilt-ridden pleasure for numerous flick arers.  Yes, they won’t gather censors’ numbers.  They won’t get A+ ratings from the movie press.  They won’t as well get C ratings from home-grown internet experts.  Hacker movies will always be scream-filled tales with empty outlines.

But through the times, these slasher films have carved – pardon the pun – a niche of their own.

A huge portion of the triumph of these slasher films can be credited to the Friday the 13th series and its 15 incarnations.  Friday the 13th is a series of movies that was lead by a hockey veil-wearing psycho killer called Jason Voorhees.  So famous is this series that it has become a staple of pop culture, being recommended in many news outlets for a good segment of the newly concluded century.

In 2009, a reboot of the series will be unleashed for the movie going enthusiasts to live through.  Once again, fans of slasher movies and individuals who are neophyte to the genre will get to enjoy the father of slasher-premised films, this time recreated for the latest generation.

Yes, Jason Voorhees is going to make a comeback!

This time, he won’t be fighting another movie fiend icon.  He won’t be in outer space, freed from years of cryogenic trance.  He won’t be fighting off the dare of a woman telepath.

Instead, we will witness, or re-witness, the nativity of a serial predator.  We will learn about the account that produced a monstrosity like Jason Voorhees.  We will see him threaten the unlucky vacationers experiencing the warm waters of Camp Crystal Lake.

It’s 2009 and it’s time for a new Friday the 13th!

The remake is directed by Marcus Nispel, who also directed the restore of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre.  The flick will star Derek Mears as Jason Voorhees, with Jared Padalecki and Amanda Righetti portraying the male and female leads, correspondingly.

The film will be shown on a Friday the 13th, particularly February 13, 2009.
